Young@Heart

Young@Heart....
What a fantastic movie. I went with a couple of friends and we thoroughly enjoyed it. It's the story of a group of older young people who have fun and sing to audiences around UK. The youngest being about 72 and the oldest 94! It was fantastic and the theatre crowd clapped all the way. Wow, I hope I can have fun when I'm that old.

This weekend I haven't sewed as planned. Grr, I bought myself a tv unit for christmas and of course, ended up moving the lounge around, changing furniture between rooms, which subsequently mean't I had to change things in the bedrooms as well, which then led to cleaning out wardrobes, cupboards etc etc etc. So here we are Sunday night and I've hardly sat down!! Now, that would have to be good for my weight and certainly good for my athritic knee.. it's when I sit too long it hurts! And food.. well, I've hardly had time to eat.. but plenty to drink. It's been so hot this weekend. I hope I melted a few grams.. Must remember batteries tomorrow.
I bought this little Santa yesterday too. It's only a K Mart special but he'll look great beside my Xmas tree which I'll put up next weekend. the photos are of me and my Dad at special times during his life. He loved Christmas. He spent many years as Santa in Dannevirke and in the Fantasy Cave. Kids were in awe of him.. Dad had spent ten years as a metre reader during his later years and he'd say to them "tell Mum to shift the hall table this year, because I nearly tripped over it last christmas"... They thought he was the real thing... haha.. He never had many Christmas's at home with us as kids. He was a tanker driver and worked till lunchtime most Christmas Day's. What he missed out on he made up for.
Time for bed. Have a great week girls!

Christmas is coming!

I'm not getting very far into my new weight loss regime. Last night was our final meeting for the year of Rose City Quilters. And supper.. I was more restrained than normal and only had two pieces of a slice and one Hershey's Kiss. (I have to get my kisses somewhere!)
I've decided for every kg I lose I can BUY a fat quarter of fabric. So if I lose 4 kgs I can buy a metre!

Not sure why my quilt pic didn't show up (thanks Anne) but I'll try again.

Haven't blogged for a very long time but my friend Chris from dietcokerocks told me how to do it last year when I was diagnosed with cancer. I'm okay now so it's time for a new one and put that behind me. This is a quilt I made for my lovely Aunt who had a heart attack three days after my Dad's funeral. She suffered badly and is now in a hospital care rest home. It's so cruel watching someone so independant become so disabled so quickly. But I am so grateful that I can go and see her and my neat Uncle (who has lung cancer) most weekends. She loved her quilt, yellow is her favourite colour and as she's losing her eye sight due to diabetes it needed to be bright and colourful.

Quilting is really therapeutic and I just love it. I have so many ideas and so little time. If I can get stuck into something I know it will help with my weight loss.

On a closing note I picked up Dawn French's biography today from the Public Library. I've only read the first couple of chapters but it's just as funny as the Vicar of Dibley. And I'm off to the movies tomorrow to see Young at Heart. I've heard it is a really neat movie .. and I won't have lollies.. maybe some popcorn? and it's 11 pm again...been decluttering! I was going to have an early night... grrrr.. I wish I could get myself organised.

Night all

The Scales

Before I can 'weigh in' I have to get new batteries for my scales!
Priorities: Write up diet sheet for a week or find my old WW books.
Work out my shopping list to match the above.
Get to the pool and exercise.
Start parking the car further from work each week till I get 25 minutes each way.

Set goals, short term and long term and REWARDS!!
REWARDS
as in patchwork fabric (as if I need more), gorgeous quilting threads, patterns or maybe a class.
I've done it before, I can do it again!!

This year has been a mixed year of emotions including winning prizes for my first ever entry into a quilt show. We had to find a postcard that inspired us to make a small wallhanging. This one is of Wellington Harbour at night. I was absolutely shocked and wrapped. It's given me heaps of confidence so now I'm planning to enter one in a nationwide competition not due to July 09.. yay, plenty of time to plan.
So this blog will be about dieting and patchwork and anything else that helps me keep 'on track' with both!
